Yoo-Jin Kang

Yoo-Jin Kang (she/her/hers) is a first-generation immigrant, Korean-American who was raised in the Seattle, Washington area (Coast Salish & Puyallup Land) and the DC/Maryland area (Susquehannock, Nentego, & Piscataway Land). She brings over 10 years of experience weaving violence prevention, mind-body modalities, antiracist equity work, and substance abuse recovery/prevention into her work. Prior to the Council, Yoo-Jin was the Senior Training & Technical Assistance Specialist at Futures Without Violence, where she led workplaces to integrate trauma-informed practices and procedures. Yoo-Jin also managed the Alcohol & Other Drugs program at American University and founded the People of Color Staff & Faculty employee resource group. She is passionate about providing holistic and intersectional care that centers and lifts up underserved & minoritized communities, especially in the workplace. Yoo-Jin received her Bachelor of Arts degrees at the University of Maryland Baltimore County in Modern Languages & Linguistics and Interdisciplinary Studies, where she focused on the Psychosocial and Cultural perspectives on violence. She is currently pursuing her Master of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. Outside of work, Yoo-Jin enjoys spending her time by the water and caring for her small cat, Matcha.
