Chief Financial Officer
Brett is the Chief Financial Officer of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, a charitable organization focused on engaging people in philanthropy to build a stronger community. He leads the Foundation’s finance, accounting, communications, and administration teams, and works as staff liaison to the Investment, Finance, and Audit committees.
Brett aims to create a service function within the Foundation's administrative work and values the role that effective communication and emotional intelligence play in building a healthy and integrated Finance function.
In executing his responsibilities at the Foundation, his multi-sector background has been a strong resource to provide a context for strategic and tactical finance and accounting/audit considerations. He has drawn on professional experience and his legal background in working within the governance mechanisms underlying Community Foundations.
Brett has a broad and diverse background and a strong technical skill set, cultivated both professionally and academically. He began his career in public accounting where he became a CPA, then spent time as as an undergraduate and graduate faculty member at Northwood University in Midland, MI. While at Northwood, Brett spent 6 years serving as the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative. Since leaving academia, Brett has served in Financial Controller and CFO roles.
Brett has earned the Certified Fraud Examiner credential and has an MBA from Central Michigan University and a Juris Doctorate from Michigan State University.
