Brandon Cox joins The Council on Foundations from Philanthropy New York, where he served as Director of Communications. At Philanthropy New York, Brandon built the communications team’s ability to engage in advocacy communications, including developing the organization's first rapid response guidelines, enhancing its ability to navigate critical issues impacting the sector.
Prior to his tenure at Philanthropy New York, Brandon was a communications strategist at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). In this role, he was responsible for elevating the ACLU’s criminal legal reform efforts, including spearheading the organization’s rapid response communications during high-profile incidents of police violence. His work also covered issues such as racial justice, reparations, marijuana justice sentencing reform, and re-entry.
Before joining the ACLU, Brandon worked at Sloane & Company, a strategic communications firm that advises multiple Fortune 500 companies in the financial services industry. He also served as a special assistant to Richmond, Virginia’s Mayor Levar Stoney, where he assisted with engagement strategies for several key development projects. Brandon has worked on several political campaigns at the federal and state levels, including Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Brandon is an avid tennis fan who spends his time practicing his forehand and traveling with his wife and son. His family hails from the Island paradise of Aruba, his favorite place to travel.
