El Pomar Foundation’s Gregory to be Recognized for Creative Grantmaking
Receives the Scrivner Award from the Council on Foundations
The Council on Foundations announced that Theophilus Gregory, senior vice president at the El Pomar Foundation, is receiving the Scrivner Award for Creative Grantmaking at this week's Annual Conference in Los Angeles.
This prestigious award is a tribute to the creative legacy left by Robert W. Scrivner, a longtime director of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the first executive director of the Rockefeller Family Fund. It is presented to someone who personifies his leadership, his devotion to upstanding values, and his energy, enthusiasm, and optimism.
"I am very fortunate to be part of an organization that is forward-thinking and innovative. El Pomar's trustees are always looking for new and different ways to make an impact throughout the state of Colorado. The foundation's outreach programs, which I am a part of, are an example of that philosophy in action," said Gregory.
"For more than two decades, El Pomar has operated creative programs geared toward leadership and community development. This atmosphere encourages collaboration and has allowed me the opportunity to partner with other organizations to help reach diverse constituents who are eager to engage on a broad-based level," he continued. "It is so gratifying to bring people together and make connections that lead to meaningful engagement across the business, government, and nonprofit sectors. And none of it would be possible without the guidance from El Pomar's trustees and their eagerness to enhance grantmaking with valuable programs that support the foundation's mission to enhance the well-being of the people of Colorado."
Gregory oversees community outreach activities for the foundation, which makes grants in arts and humanities, education, health, human services, amateur sports, and civic and community initiatives. He also joined the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation staff in September 2001 on a part-time basis as assistant to the president and CEO. He previously served as director of athletics and associate director, Center for the Study of Sport and Leisure, at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. Gregory is active in a number of organizations and serves as vice chair of the U.S. Air Force Academy Athletic Corporation board.
"Theo's commitment to Colorado communities fosters positive and lasting changes across the philanthropic sector," said Jeff Clarke, the Council's interim president and CEO. "His work with the El Pomar Foundation continues to impact and enhance the lives of many people."
